Girona secured a 2-1 away win at Cadiz on Saturday, a result that boosts their promotion hopes in the Segunda División. First-half goals from Vladyslav Vanat and Carles Pérez proved enough to take all three points from the Nuevo Mirandilla.
Quique Álvarez's side, who arrived with 7 points from 5 games, showed their best attacking form early on. In the 35th minute, a precise cross from Álex Moreno from the left found the head of Vanat, who beat the home goalkeeper. Nine minutes later, the same combination bore fruit again. Carles Pérez, after another pass from Moreno, finished with class to extend the lead.
Cadiz reacted immediately after the break. In the 47th minute, an unfortunate deflection from David López from a cross ended up in his own net, reducing the deficit. The match then became more balanced, with both sides creating chances. Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was key for Girona, making five saves, while his counterpart did the same at the other end.
Álvarez turned to his bench to manage the result. With 21 minutes remaining, Oleksandr Pyshchur and Javier González came on for Donny van de Beek and Yaser Asprilla, the team's top scorer this season with 4 goals. Later, Lass Kourouma, Abdul Mumin and Alejandro Francés also entered the fray. The match ended with some tension, reflected in three yellow cards for the visitors.
With this win, Girona climb to tenth place in the standings, now on 10 points. The team has shown inconsistent form, with a recent run of three wins and two defeats in their last five outings. Their focus now turns to their next challenge at Montilivi. They host Albacete, who are bottom of the table, next Friday, September 25.
