Agreement and contract
Girona FC announced the signing of Ghanaian centre-back Abdul Mumin, who joins on a free transfer and signs a contract until 2029. Mumin, who has played in La Liga and other European leagues, is set to become a key figure in Quique Álvarez’s defensive line.
Club reactions
President Delfí Geli welcomed Mumin and highlighted his experience: “He has experience in La Liga and other leagues, and I trust he can become an important help to compete in Segunda.” Director of football Quique Cárcel also celebrated the deal, saying: “I’m very happy you have come to this project.” Cárcel praised Mumin’s ability to bring “defensive solidity and lift the team”, as well as his speed to correct mistakes and good mentality.
Mumin’s expectations
Mumin explained that the club’s reputation in Europe influenced his choice: “I believe Girona has a great reputation in Europe and is a great club and project for any footballer.” In his first impressions, the player said the first days have been good, although “they speak in Spanish and very fast.” He joked that he will need “a few weeks” to fully adapt to the new environment.
The defender acknowledges the responsibility ahead: “I’m here to give my best and always what I can.” Quique Álvarez has already begun to convey his expectations, and Mumin thanked the coach for the initial instructions.
After his experience at Rayo Vallecano, Mumin must adjust to a different style: “Football is universal. Rayo is more vertical and Girona likes to have more possession.”
The defender expects to finish adapting in a few weeks.
