Girona is focusing on returning to LaLiga after its relegation to Segunda División. The president of the City Football Group, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, confirmed that Girona is a fundamental part of the Group and that the plans for the club will not change. He acknowledged that the loss of category for Girona was a hard blow for all those linked to the club, but insisted that the priority objective is the return to LaLiga. 'It hurts us a lot', he said. 'But that's in the past. Now we're not sad; now we're focused on what we need to do to get Girona back to LaLiga. And we will achieve it', he assured. The relegation does not change anything: 'Girona is a fundamental part of the Group'. He reiterated the confidence placed in the Catalan entity and its growth, highlighting especially the development of the youth academy. 'We have many plans for the club because we have a very clear vision of LaLiga. We also have a very clear vision of Girona, the development of talent in Girona and in this region of Spain, Catalonia. The Academy project we are developing there, the stadium we will develop... all those plans will not change', he said. 'In terms of football, we will move forward and we will return it to where it deserves to be. This summer we will do what is necessary and we will put this team back on the right path to return to LaLiga; it's just a matter of time', he prophesied.
